Purpose

To support the Enterprise strategically with ongoing and in-depth cost, profitability, and/or general financial modeling and analysis, encompassing various business segmentation levels (including but not necessarily limited to account, terminal, lane, etc.), executed on both process-driven as well as “as needed”/ad hoc bases.

Responsibilities

• Create and evaluate freight density studies in accordance with current departmental processes, policies, and guidelines 
• Support the maintenance of cost profiles and databases (including but not necessarily limited to freight density, extra costs, accessorial costs, terminal specific profiles, etc.) 
• Assist in daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cost model maintenance tasks 
• Communicate with Pitt Ohio terminals and/or Field Personnel in order to collect information about accounts and business segments (including but not necessarily limited to freight stackability profile, problematic accounts, perceived cost-drivers, etc.) 
• Conduct preliminary profitability analysis on account, terminal, and regional bases 
• Develop and maintain a general background knowledge of cost accounting buckets within the cost model and a preliminary knowledge of general ledger translation into the model 
• Research potential cost model errors and issues and recommend solutions 
• Develop and maintain a working proficiency in SQL to assist in root cause and/or ad hoc analyses relating to the cost model 
• Perform regular, iterative, and/or ad hoc analysis as requested/required 
• Provide occasional Tier I end-user support of cost model. This includes but is not necessarily limited to issues that would be obvious to Costing department personnel, but not necessarily Pricing personnel. 
• React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or other quantitative discipline. Equivalent experience may also be considered.
• At least 1 year of related work experience preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required (vlookups, pivot tables, subtotals, etc.)
• Proficiency with SQL Server is a plus, but not required.
• Outstanding problem solving and analytical ability.
• Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent math skills.
• High attention to detail.
• Ability to compile and analyze data and draw conclusions.
• Cost accounting and/or data analysis experience preferred.
• Command of English language to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
• LTL trucking experience and/or knowledge of LTL freight classes and characteristics preferred.
• Intellectual curiosity.
• Process orientated individual that looks for increased efficiency in repetitive tasks.

 

Working Conditions

• Primarily a sedentary position working in an office environment; frequent exposure to moderate noise levels including ringing telephones, machinery, and conversations of others. 
• Potential exposure to adverse weather conditions when interacting with management and employees
• May be exposed to dock operations including freight, forklifts, and other dock equipment.  May also be exposed to various trucks, exhaust, fumes, and other related conditions.
• Manual dexterity is regularly required including fingering, grasping, and typing; manual dexterity includes repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers
• Talking and hearing required to communication with and listen to others to share or receive information.
